6 Pack Cinema vol VII..The Final Chapter

Coming up to the end of another week of 6 Pack Cinema Awards w/ the Blue Ribbon still to serve up. But before handing it out there still is one more nomination...

From 1977 Hal Needham's Smokey & the Bandit

The Bandit takes a bet that he & his trucker friend The Snowman can't run a shipment of bootleg Coors from Texas to Georgia. While running blocker for the transport he picks up Frog who is on the run herself from her own wedding. Now not only do they have to run rough shot from the local law the father of groom is a Texas Country Sheriff & he is in hot pursuit.

Gonna wrap it all up in a moment but some quick self promotion before hand.

Alright time for the big award for the week of 7. Best Picture of the Week – The Blue Ribbon

Those that didn't make the nomination cut were Airport 77, Devil's Angels, Dragstrip Girl, Steele Justice & Silent Night Deadly Night 2 (but it should have..in fact I should have given it all the awards)

Again the nominees were Hot Fuzz, Saturday Night Fever, Barfly, Rabid, Death Rides a Horse & Smokey & the Bandit.

And the winner is..

Barfly

Am I bias because I love drunks in movies? Maybe but Barfly might be the greatest alcoholic movie ever. I would put it in the top 3 @ the very least. It's a great performance piece. That should be of no surprise because I gave The Bush to Faye Dunaway & The Bud To Mickey Rourke. Lovable, sad yet beautiful. I wish my taverns were populated w/ such barflies. I would people watch all day long instead of watching film for such characters. I remembered late in the week that this movie was released in a year ending in 7 & I am thrilled that I pulled it out. It had been years since I had seen it. An utter joy to watch once again & sadly I think it often slips through the cracks. Too bad. It's fucking great.

That will do it for yet another week of 6 Pack Cinema Awards. I'd like to thank those who came back for the 2nd half. I hadn't forgotten about it but fuck was it hot but like a fool I still threw beer on it which only makes me more laggly...but this isn't the Evian Bottle Awards you know.

Until next time..enjoying cinema served w/ a buzz
